This year 223 companies decided to turn to the region’s providers of specialist knowledge, among whom are the leading Moravian-Silesian universities: Brno University of Technology, Masaryk University, Mendel University in Brno and the University of Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Sciences Brno.
Top research was also offered by institutes of the Czech Academy of Sciences: Institute of Scientific Instruments, Institute of Physics of Materials, Institute of Biophysics, Institute of Analytical Chemistry and the Global Change Research Centre. Other research institutes with which companies can cooperate under the research framework include: Research Institute of Building Materials, a.s., Transport Research Centre, Veterinary Research Institute and the International Clinical Research Center at St. Anne’s University Hospital in Brno.
A total of 10 institutions have become involved this year’s call. The Table summarizes the list of participating institutions.

The offer to develop innovation in cooperation with BUT and the Technology Transfer Office, which coordinates the processing of applications at the university, will be supported by 27 JIC | innovation vouchers, with the Faculty of Chemistry being allocated 9 out of the 45 balloted in total. In terms of the all the research institutions in the South-Moravian Region who sought cooperation within the project framework, the number of vouchers for BUT represents a 60 % success rate for cooperation between the university and the private sector.
Second place went to Mendel University in Brno, with 8 vouchers and third place was shared by Masaryk University and the Research Institute of Building Materials, a.s. with 3 projects each. Other knowledge providers who were successful with their application and who secured 1 innovation voucher included the University of Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Sciences in Brno, Veterinary Research Institute, Transport Research Centre and the St. Anne’s University Hospital in Brno.
The biggest share of the deposited applications belonged to enterprises in the civil engineering sector (29 %) and machine engineering (25 %). This year, companies from the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Austria and Slovakia also participated, with a total of 13 deposited applications.
JIC | innovation vouchers will be also realized at other faculties in BUT: Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication Technologies, Faculty of Civil Engineering and Faculty of Information Technology.
Realization of the supported projects was initiated in June 2014 and will last until June 2015. The companies will share a total of CZK 4 million through 45 vouchers. The precondition for the receipt of vouchers is to contribute a quarter of the project amount from the company’s own resources. For a list of companies with supported projects, please refer to the project coordinator’s website: the South-Moravian Innovation Centre.
