Another option involves using a non-dismountable tester, but this method is seldom very precise. However, a solution is now available in the form of a non-dismountable tester, recently innovated by scientists working at the Brno University of Technology.
These non-dismountable testers are governed by the EUSAMA (European Shock Absorber Manufacturers Association) methodology, which unifies the test conditions. The results of the currently used non-dismountable testers are affected by e.g. the weight of the car or the technical condition of the chassis, which reduce the precision of the tester. Thus non-dismountable testers often cannot localize the causes of worse than expected shock absorber test results.
Researchers from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Brno University of Technology have come up with a new non-dismountable tester for verifying the overall condition of half-axles of passenger vehicles. Doc. Ivan Mazůrek and Ing. Milan Klapka, Ph.D. started out by examining the advantages and disadvantages of testers in this category. They constructed a mobile tester and developed a methodology for evaluating a measured signal by which they were able, using modal analysis, to diagnose the axle’s condition.
According to the amendment to Regulation No. 302/2001 Coll., testing shock absorbers will be mandatory in the periodic inspections of the State Motor Vehicle Inspection (STK). This regulation thereby supports the industrial use of the new tester. The advantages of the new non-dismountable tester are its low purchase and operation costs. The tester also offers very precise and comprehensive diagnostics of the half-axles of passenger cars. Its low construction and weight also enables measuring outside the workshop.
