Technology Description
This innovative solution to the frequent need for renovating the degraded joints of tunnel masonry was developed by scientists Prof. Ing. Ivailo Terzijski, CSc., Ing. David Horák, Ph.D., and Ing. Jaroslav Kadlec at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Institute of Concrete and Masonry Structures.
The newly developed grout is designed so that its modulus of elasticity always corresponds to the modulus of elasticity of the masonry to be jointed. This reduces the stress in the joint itself and at the interface of the masonry and the grout, thereby preventing mechanical degradation.
By a simple adjustment of the formula, you can change the mechanical parameters of the material. This is highly innovative and advantageous compared to other grouts commonly available. In different tunnel structures there are generally found different types of sandstone or sandstone masonry. These have different mechanical parameters, which the properties of the renovation grout should match as closely as possible. The new compound has a variable modulus of elasticity, which can be adapted to the modulus of elasticity of the masonry being jointed.
Main Advantages
- Easy to prepare.
- Reasonably priced.
- Mechanical properties of the grout can be modified to suit application.
- Ability to adapt the modulus of elasticity means it can be used for all types of tunnel masonry.
